Texting workshop at NCCEPWorkshop Recap

Big thanks to everyone who came to our Txt4Success workshop at this year’s NCCEP Conference in San Francisco! Couldn’t make it? No problem – read a quick recap in this week’s blog post.

Nearly 50 GEAR UP partners came to the workshop to learn how to use two-way text messaging to better connect with students. Dr. Adam Green and Jessica Kennedy from the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and Alex Chewning from uAspire hosted the session.

Most of the session focused on statewide text messaging and Summer Melt research. Jessica shared West Virginia’s model for scaling up their texting program and reaching students across the entire state. She shared sample text messages and a folder full of research. Alex gave an in-depth overview of uAspire’s involvement in the research about education text messaging.

Texting presentation at NCCEPAttendees even got to test out texting for themselves. We sent them text messages through Signal Vine and then they could respond back with questions and comments.

Overall, the workshop was a huge success. We had a great time speaking with GEAR UP programs about better ways to engage their students. We’ll see you at next year’s conference!
